Orangewood High School Scholarships

This $300 scholarship may be awarded to an outstanding Orangewood High School student whose career goals support children including teaching, social work, or similar careers. Special consideration will be given to teen parents. This scholarship is given in memory of Theresa Philler, the original head of the We Care Program at OHS.

This $500 scholarship may be awarded to a graduating senior who has promoted racial and intercultural harmony on campus. An essay is required for this scholarship using this prompt: Write a short essay describing how you have promoted racial and intercultural harmony on campus.

This $2,500 scholarship may be awarded to a graduating senior who is seeking a career in the field of medicine. The student must be outstanding both academically and in leadership skills, ensuring success in his or her planned career.

The Bob Weber Pride Scholarship recognizes the accomplishments of graduating seniors within the 2SLGBTQIA+ community who have actively contributed to their school's Gender and Sexuality Alliance (GSA) club or an equivalent school group for at least one year. While GPA and financial need are considered, primary importance is placed on your involvement in and dedication to the GSA club. Please submit a 300+ word response addressing the following three questions: How has your identity as a member of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community shaped your educational journey? How has participating in the GSA club (or its equivalent) benefitted you? How do you envision using your education and experiences to contribute to the advancement of inclusivity and understanding for the 2SLGBTQIA+ community in the future? Your essay will play a key role in the selection process and is an opportunity to share your authentic experiences and aspirations. We encourage you to be creative and thoughtful in your responses.

This $2,000 scholarship may be awarded to a graduating senior with plans to attend a trade school, a community college or a 4-year college with plans to study and have a career in the media arts, preferably audio or video production.

This $2,000 scholarship may be awarded to a graduating senior who will continue to further his or her education in a career of his or her choice.

Two $500 scholarships may be awarded to graduating seniors who attended Cram Elementary School for at least two years and have a 3.0 GPA or better who plans on attending a Junior College or four-year college.

This $1,500 scholarship may be awarded to a graduating senior with a 3.0 or greater GPA who intends to pursue a career in Engineering. Special consideration will be given to applicants involved in non-school service groups such as church or community service.

This $500 celebrates students who have faced challenges and risen above them with determination, hope, and strength. This $500 scholarship supports a graduating senior who has demonstrated resilience through personal, academic, or social obstacles and remains committed to pursuing higher education. Students who have received Special Education-related services or individualized support are strongly encouraged to apply, as this scholarship honors students who have worked hard to overcome barriers and move forward. Recipients may attend any accredited college, university, or vocational program of their choice, whether nearby at Crafton Hills College, San Bernardino Valley College, or Cal State San Bernardino, or beyond, as they expand their horizons and soar toward greater opportunities. Applicants should have a GPA of 2.5 or higher, but students with lower GPAs are also encouraged to apply if they can show persistence, growth, and effort toward their goals. A personal statement of at least 300 words (up to 500 words preferred) should tell your story of resilience, how you faced challenges, what you learned, and how you continue to move forward. The committee values honesty, effort, and heart above perfection. This scholarship honors the courage to keep going, the belief in one’s own potential, and the power of turning struggle into strength.

Two $2,500 scholarships may be awarded to graduating seniors who have shown effort and dedication to succeed in community involvement, work or volunteer experiences, athletics, extracurricular activities, and/or academics. The recipient should be a positive influence on friends and the community. The scholarships shall reward effort, dedication, and positive attitude, rather than a specific GPA. This scholarship honors Jan A. Winn, a long-time teacher in the Redlands Unified School District, who always believed in her students. She taught with a passion and was a positive influence on her students and peers.

This $300 scholarship may be awarded to an outstanding student who has a positive attitude and wishes to continue their education at a two or four-year college.

This $300 scholarship may be awarded to a student who attended Kingsbury Elementary School for at least three years, has a minimum of a B average, and has demonstrated good citizenship and leadership. Involvement in extracurricular and community activities must be demonstrated. Financial need will be considered.

$4,000 award disbursed over a two-year period. Applicants must have a 2.5 + G.P.A. coupled with a demonstrated interest and aptitude in a technical area (e.g. mechanical, health or fire technician, engineering, computer science). Coursework in a ROP/ CTE pathway, relative training or experiences, involvement in community service, and extra curricular activities are desired. Applicants must also submit a maximum 300 word essay stating their academic and/or career goals as well as why they deserve to be considered for this scholarship award. Financial need is a consideration when selecting awardees. Two students and one alternate will be selected from CVHS, REVHS, and RHS through an interview process. One student and one alternate will be selected from OHS through an interview process.

Most former students would recognize Lorraine Valdez as long-time attendance clerk at Redlands High School. Whether she told you her new favorite joke, celebrated a win from last night’s game of any sport, or raised her eyebrows at someone’s unexcused absence, Lorraine was well-known for her generosity of spirit and the love she spread throughout her community. What people may not know about her is that in getting married and starting her family at 16, she didn’t have the opportunity to graduate high school. Recognizing the importance of education, she went back to school to get her G.E.D., and took opportunity after opportunity to work her way up from her job as a noon duty aide to her tenure at RHS. In continuing her legacy of generosity, forgiving when she could, and taking advantage of every opportunity given, this scholarship established in her name is to provide a high school senior with a second chance. Whatever the reason a student may have been pushed a step (or a few) behind, the funds are meant to support them in continuing their education in a way that is meaningful to them. In a short easy essay please describe what a second chance could mean for you in your life (we are not looking at the length we are looking at content).

Several $1,500 scholarships may be awarded to graduating seniors who attended Lugonia Elementary School. The students must have extensive community service and/or be involved in school activities, demonstrate good citizenship, and have a GPA of 2.5 or higher. The scholarship may be used at any college, university, or vocational school.

This $200 scholarship may be awarded to an outstanding student who has a positive attitude and wishes to continue his or her education at a two or four-year college.

This $1,000 scholarship may be awarded to a student with a 2.5 GPA or higher and is planning on attending a trade school or 2-year college with an interest in a career as a mechanic, welder, plumber, electrician, fireman or nurse

This $1,000 scholarship may be awarded to a black graduating senior who demonstrates financial need. This student must be planning on earning a college degree or certificate program. Write a 300 word essay explaining what lessons or past experiences will help you bring positive changes for the future?

This $1,000 scholarship may be awarded to a graduating male senior who has lettered in either junior varsity or varsity soccer at some point in their high school career. Preference will be given to students who share Nicholas Carter’s passion for soccer, culinary arts, and military service. Applicants should present a 500+ word essay demonstrating the impact that ALL THREE of these interests have had in their life. To be considered for the scholarship, applicants MUST include ALL THREE topics in their essay. The essay is intended to shed light upon the student’s passion rather than provide a proficiency in writing. Students may feel free to include humor, recount personal events, or find other creative ways to let their personality be the focus of the essay.

These $500 scholarships may be awarded by the Northside Booster Club to encourage athletes to maintain a good academic average. The scholarships may be awarded to a graduating male or female who have maintained at least a 2.5 GPA and participated in at least one sport.

These $750 scholarships may be awarded to graduating seniors who will be majoring in architecture or architectural engineering at an accredited college or university. It is awarded in memory of Steven J. Lehnhof, an architecture and drafting teacher at Redlands High School for many years.

These $500.00 scholarships may be awarded to one graduating senior for each high school (CVHS, REV, RHS, OHS) in honor of previous RUSD Superintendent, Mauricio Arellano who was a champion for equity. This scholarship supports underrepresented students who have overcome a significant challenge related to inequity. It aims to empower students who have faced and worked through an inequitable situation through finding their voice and advocating for their success. Students who apply must have good citizenship, and they must submit a 500-word essay sharing a specific time where they faced an inequitable situation and how they worked through that situation through self advocacy. These scholarships are open to students pursuing any form of higher education or career technical education, regardless of field or discipline. Whether enrolled in a traditional academic program or specialized vocational training, all eligible students are encouraged to apply. A screening committee composed of RAPA members will meet to determine the most deserving applicants based on an objective scoring system.

This $1,000 or greater scholarship may be awarded to the most deserving student within the Redlands Unified School District. The student must have a 2.5 or higher GPA, be the son or daughter of a current RESPA member, and wish to attend an institution of higher learning. The student must present an essay in 100 words or less using the following prompt: What Education Means to Me.

This $1000 is offered to a graduating Orangewood High School Senior who plans to attend a two or four-year college or university or an accredited trade school. Applicant must demonstrate the capacity to be successful in college or trade school. There is no GPA requirement for this scholarship.

This $1,500 scholarship may be awarded by the Professional Women of Redlands, a committee of the Redlands League, to a graduating young woman who possesses a minimum 2.5 GPA, has participated in at least one school activity, and has demonstrated some type of community service. Financial need is also a consideration. The recipient must be planning to attend a two-year degree or certification program or four-year college. Preference will be given to a student who will be the first in her family to obtain a college degree or professional certification program. A short essay is required using this prompt: Describe an adversity you have faced and overcome and how this has helped motivate you to continue your education. Also, include a description of your participation in school activities and community service, evidence of financial need and why you want to continue your education.

Six $500 scholarships will be awarded to swimmers with Redlands Swim Team who have a minimum 3.0 GPA. Must be a current swimmer or have swum with Redlands Swim Team for 3 of the last 4 years. Please write a 300-word essay using the following prompt: How has your time with RST impacted the person you are today, and what lessons and skills have you learned that will help you achieve your educational goals?

Several $1,000 scholarships may be awarded to graduates of Redlands Unified. Candidates for the scholarships should be in good standing in regards to grades and citizenship. A candidate with an RTA connection will be given priority preference. Candidates pursuing a profession in the teaching field will be given secondary preference. In order to receive awarded monies, the candidate must have already been admitted to a trade school, community college, 4-year college or university.

One $5000 scholarship may be awarded to a student with a minimum GPA of 2.5 and a maximum of 3.5 with the intention to pursue a degree or a career in a STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, math) discipline at either a trade school, community college, or 4-year college/university. Financial need is a requirement. The recipient must have a minimum of 100 hours of community service, volunteering, or work experience throughout high school. Write an essay in 500 words or less describing how your past has prepared you for your vision of the future.

This $500 scholarship may be awarded to an outstanding student who is highly motivated and plans to attend either a junior college or a vocational school for the LVN program or a post-secondary institution.

These $500 scholarships may be awarded to a graduating seniors. The scholarship was created from the long history of promoting love and respect among all of the people of faith in our community. The student must provide a 500 word essay using the following prompt: "How I Can Be an Agent of Peace."

This $500 scholarship may be awarded to a graduating senior from any Redlands Unified high school who has a 2.5 GPA or higher. This student must have attended Victoria Elementary School for at least three years and has continued to follow the Victoria Peace Builders Pledge.

Two $500 scholarships will be awarded to dedicated Orangewood seniors who demonstrate commitment to earning a diploma. The scholarship is for training or certification that leads to a vocation or career such as emergency medical service, radiology tech., welding, plumbing, nursing, cosmetology, etc. Raymond and Jean Olson lived many years in Redlands. Both were from small towns in Wisconsin and raised by single mothers with limited access to education. A widow, Raymond's mother worked as a seamstress and a cook at a cafe to support 5 children; Jean's mother worked in a shoe factory to support two kids.

These $500 scholarships may be awarded to outstanding students who intend to pursue higher education at a two-year or four-year college. These scholarships are selected by the counselors at each high school.

This $1,000scholarship honors Sue Hammond, a former teacher/counselor at Orangewood High School. Sue encouraged her students to be inquisitive, creative, passionate, and insightful about who they were and who they could become. She championed her students to be their best selves, always reminding them that life is a journey and we are all life-long learners. The recipient of this scholarship possesses these qualities. Since attending Orangewood, they have demonstrated what it takes to be a great student: Exemplary attendance, solid academic performance, model citizenship, and the ability to set goals and follow through. We are honored to celebrate this recipient with a scholarship to be used to support his/her future learning endeavors.

This $500 scholarship may be awarded to a graduating senior who has maintained at least a 3.5 GPA, shown leadership in school activities, plans to attend a two or four-year college, any kind of trade school or any other form of education that will help the recipient make a positive contribution to society. Attendance can be either full or part-time. Preference will be given to a student who has participated in school or community activities. This scholarship is awarded in memory of William T. Hartzell, a community leader and lifetime resident of Redlands.
